A “sneaky trick” that one inspired veterinarian uses to keep cats happy can be equally applied to your cattery, grooming salon, pet transport or pet sitting business – and it’s NOT a sedative or Feliway!

Dr Aine Seavers of Oak Flats Vet in NSW is a regular contributor to a veterinary chat room called “Control and Therapy” and has found that the trick lies in knowing one simple thing – t hat cats’ favourite room temperature (the “thermoneutral zone”) is actually much warmer than dogs and humans – 32-38C. All you have to do is get a hot-pack and put it under the cat! The cat relaxes and settles, and in a cooler room the cat will not want to leave the pack. That means that the cat will generally stay wherever you put it! Of course, you can still use Feliway as an “add on” to heat pads, but we recommend not using sedation unless there is a reason to do so. Sedation also usually needs veterinary advice.
