Sydney Dogs and Cats Home has hailed an innovative program to find new homes for shelter animals using Pet Shops , as well as marketing shelter animals in a positive way; The Animal Welfare League in Qld is also using Pet Shops, and Council Pounds have halved euthanasia rates and are open when the public needs them – these are just some of the findings of the “Getting to Zero” workshop held at Parliament House in Sydney in May

Pets Australia was the only pet industry group present at the meeting, which was enormously positive even as Clover Moore reignited yet anther push for a parliamenary inquiry. Unfortunately the “Clover Moore Angle” was the ONLY news some activists were prepared to discuss after the event. It’s enormously frustrating, when 98% of the activities are positive and industry could support them, to have this ongoing and ‘old thinking’ about endless legislation drive groups apart that could be working together to make a difference.
