Caring For My Cat
Cats are engaging pets that need special care. More than 2.5 million households in Australia own and love their cats. Cats are not difficult to own, but you must “follow the rules” for cat care, especially if you have small children or other pets. They are the second most common pet in Australia.
What is a cat?
Cats are carnivores (meat eaters) of the Genus Felidae. They can live up to 20 years. They are known as obligate carnivores, which means that they cannot live on a vegetarian or vegan diet, and must receive special nutrients in their diet that can generally only be found in meat. They are a common pet in Australia.
What kinds are there?
Common breeds vary by country. While there are less than 50 recognised breeds in Australia, the most common cat pet is the DSH – Domestic Short Hair – also known as the “Moggie”.
