A new threat – Bad Rabbit – is spreading across Europe and will soon be coming to a pet industry computer near you! Disguised as an update to Adobe Flash player, it infects your machine, denies you access to your data, asks you pay ransom,  includes references to Game of Thrones and the 1995 movie “Hackers” and asks for A$0.05 Bitcoin (about $390). Unlike some other ransomware it doesn’t appear to wipe your drives completely, but that’s little consolation if you can’t access them.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

1. Adobe Flash has been discontinued – DO NOT UPDATE.
2. Keep all antivirus/anti-malware/anti-everything software up to date
3. Back up your hard drive NOW
4. DO NOT open unsolicited
   emails telling you to update software, including free software.
5. WARN your staff. There is a clear association between infection and well trained staff.
