Pay and Conditions for Boarding Kennel Hands and Employed Groomers/Grooming Technicians

UPDATE OCT 2011 – CLICK HERE

The move to the Fair Work Act has caused confusion in the Boarding and Grooming Sectors. Employers are “hoping for the best”, or getting conflicting information from the Fair Work Ombudsman – and is the Federal Act right for your business anyway?

Nobody can give you legally binding advice – not the Fair Work Comission, not the Industrial Relations Commission, and not Pets Australia. Only the courts can give you legally binding advice on what, and how, you should pay your employees.

Ultimately the market will decide whether you should be paying Minimum Wage, Copying modern award conditions from another group to match your work, of entering into a minimum contract. We DO know, though, that if you don’t meet the minimum ten criteria you will be prosecuted on inspection by the Fair Work people.

How to chart a path through the maze? Pets Australia has interviewed all the relevant people, read relevant acts, examined relevant awards and has put it all together in a simple, readable format to help you decide how to move forward.
